Re: Aurora Caravans.
I received an email from Chris this week informing me that he was the grandson of William Smith, who was the owner and builder of Aurora Caravans.
Chris has email me some photos of his grandfathers caravans and there will be some history on these vans to come.
A 12 foot van under construction about 1940-45.
This is a great interior shot showing the level of craftsmanship. I particularly like the "agricultural"
sink pump and the "painted on scenery" out the windows. Chris email a high res copy of this photo and its interesting to see just how much touching up they did to the photo.
A 1952 article about a caravan that William modified to be a knock down kit for easy transportation. The body of the van could be unbolted and plat packed between the chassis rails making a box about 10 foot x 5 foot x 18 inches.
