Hi Richard

This review and specification for Romany from Dec 1948 gives pretty detailed information if you managed to find one on your Tasmanian trip :)

Any idea when they started building vans :?: 18 years testing seems a bit excessive  if you weren't building some along the way or maybe they just travelled in other makes until coming up with a design.

Here's some more about Romany vans from Tasmania. Two smaller vans were also available, the 'Romany Minor' on the Morrie would make a nice outfit if you could fine one.
Mr. Abbott it seems was into vehicle hiring as well as the advert shows and located at 276 Georgetown Road, Launceston.
