This item is from the Garage and Service Station Gazette, Sept., 1937 and gives details of chassis and coupling referred to as the 'Alligator Grip' from the Central Spring Works in South Melbourne.

It's not particularly clear in the photo and I've tried to enlarge it in this photo to give some idea of what it is like.

It is an unusual arrangement from what can be seen and nothing like the following coupling advertised from the same company from the Australian Caravan Magazine for 1938.

This one is referred to as No. 2 Alligator Grip so it may be 'mark II' or just a different size. Can anyone add more information :?:

A friend has what I believe is a Gypsy Super Gem caravan with this coupling. He was told the van was about 1948-50 vintage.
