This 1957 article for Phoenix Caravans states that they are now using 22 guage aluminium as the outer cladding. It is also interesting that the only structural timber used is for the ply wood floor which is riveted to the chassis.

A Phoenix advert from Keith Winser's Modern Motor Book of Lightweight Trailers for 1952-3.
It indicates they were moving more into recreational vans in new premises and had a background in office furniture and vans and living units for councils.

This Phoenix vintage caravan was recently advertised on ebay as a 1957.
The sellers comment follows.
"1957 Phoenix caravan , 12" x 7" sleeps 4 , interior is amazing, in excellent condition and original as photos show, nice and dry inside with no leaks , Morphy Richards gas electric fridge (gets cold but not freezing) gas stove ,water tank and pump working , easy to tow @ 700kgs , outside is good but requires repair to lower rear right quarter, can view almost any time ,have rego history."
Although I have a sneaking suspicion, going from the 1960 advert above, that this may be a 1960 or 61 model.

A Phoenix vintage caravan recently advertised on ebay, with the following sellers comment.
Hi there i'm selling my cute and unusual vintage caravan, it has not been changed or restored. I think it is either late 50's or 60's. The caravan shell was made by Phoenix Industries in Fairfield, Melbourne. i have owned this caravan for 20 years, it has been parked in my back yard for most of this time and used as an occasional spare room. i am selling because of illness.
This van looks to be in fairly good condition considering that it has been parked in a back yard for 20 years. It does have some water damage as shown but what is unusual about this little van is that it started life as a caravan shell, with the owner fitting out the interior himself.
