High Country Tour to 2018 Nationals Canberra to Wangaratta
Posted: Fri Apr 07, 2017 8:40 pm
I am putting my hand up to organise a alternative tour to the 2018 Nationals, Canberra to Wangaratta via the high country rather than just blasting down the highway.
I am posting on both this site and the Vintagecaravans.com forum as I believe that we all have a common interest to further vintage caravans as a hobby.
Very roughly the proposed route will be;
Depart Canberra Sunday 15 April 2018
Jindabyne (Side trip without vans to Mt Kosciusko and Charlotte Pass)http://www.charlottepass.com.au/ www.visitnsw.com/destinations/snowy-mou ... abyne-area
Over Dead Horse Gap www.visitnsw.com/destinations/snowy-mou ... -horse-gap
Morning tea stop Geehi Campground www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/camping-an ... campground
Via Khancoban www.khancoban.com.au/
Corryong www.murrayriver.com.au/corryong/
Tawonga (Side trip to Mt Beauty) www.tawonga.vic.au/ www.mtbeauty.com/
Via Myrtleford www.visitmyrtlefordvic.com.au/
Wangaratta Arrive Friday 20th
I have been through this way previously in my 56 Buick towing a light van(automatic, drum brakes) and had no difficulty. Autumn is a spectacular time of year in the high country as the leaves change colour and drop.
Please let me know if you are up to the challenge.
You had better also let me know quickly if you intend to bring a dog along but as the Nats caravan park is not dog friendly I don't see much point in accommodating them on the tour either.
This weekend I hope to lock in caravan parks for the tour.
To assist me to keep track of those interested, please send me an email to jherne@bigpond.net.au
