Carapark Refrigerator
An advertisement from Modern Motor, Feb., 1951 for the Carapark refrigerator. Mr. Rankin certainly covered all the bases when it came to making a quid.
Was this a 'badge engineered' item or something of his own design and manufacture I wonder?

Hi George.
Have a look on page 3 of this 1955 Carapark catalogue and they have a couple of fridges listed, and they are both kerosene and branded Hardie and Spear. The fridge in the ad above looks to be a Crosley.

Carapark 13' 6" Homemaker Kit Plan.
I have included the plan of the Carapark 13'6" Homemaker again as I am always asked "did people actually build from these plans and kits". There would have been many vans home built back in the 30's to the 60's as there was just not a lot of builders back then, but probably more important it was also a way of saving money by building your own.
It is often hard to identify a van and its plan as there were so many plans available and the builders of the van would change a few things from the plan to suit their requirements, but from the photos below you can clearly see that this van was built from the Carapark kit as listed above.
This Carapark Homemaker is actually for sale and the owners have listed the van as,
Restored Vintage Carapark. 1949. Many original features, Chassis approved by CTIA. Caravan & Trailer Industries Association 3149. Original chassis No & Plate. NSW Rego 2010. Used original materials & timbers to restore, ie. Rosewood Cupboards, ceder windows, Has original galvanised bathtub under rear bed, newer 3 way fridge with period facade, gas stove, gas bottle, sink, water tank. Original Oldsmobile 16"wheel rims with very good tyres. Fibreglass roof, all external sheeting sealed, colours & fabrics painted or made to suit period... Full Functional & Towable.
Family Owned & Restored.

I have been lucky to have been given this fabulous 16 page Carapark brochure from the early 1950's, featuring the product range from that time.
