This Carapark commercial caravan was recently on ebay. It look to be a single axle about 18' long with 2 roof hatches. The aluminium cladding looks to be a diamond pattern which would make this example a later model. Carapark caravans like this were commonly used by local councils and the DMR etc as mobile site offices, lunch and change rooms.

While at Motorfest this year a young bloke, ( well he was in his 60's ) by the name of Owen approched me about some information that he had on Carapark Caravans. His father had worked for the Carapark dealer at 681 Parramatta Rd Leichardt. Sydney for a number of years and he had unearthed a few of the original brochures that his father had put away many years ago.

Owen very kindly gave me the following brochures to add to my collection.

This is an original Carapark flyer in fantastic condition, and would be one of the best that I have.
I am not quite sure if the family are towing the tree cos its part of their garden or if it is somewhere for the dog to pee.

The following 3 brochures arnt in as good of condition but they are flyers for the 3 Kit Caravans that Carapark sold in the mid 50's.

Hi Richard

It seems that Carapark always had a few advertising pounds to spend with Modern Motor. These two ads are from 1950 and 1951, for the 'Hunter MInor' but there is an increase of 30 pound in the cost of a deposit for a van in just under 12 months, quite a lot back then I would think.

And then a small item from 1950 talks of production restrictions in NSW? Were there still rationing of some materials then? They seems to have taken up manufacturing in Qld to get around it?

Carapark over ride coupling.
A couple of posts back the accessories advert shows a coupling. Recently a new van moved into the area I travel on my walks and it has a Carapark coupling but didn't look like any van of theirs I'd ever seen. No stickers or id on it and when I later spoke to the owners they think it is a Viscount, it's only about 10ft and I don't think it even has brakes. There's been a bit of work done and it may have been added. I took a photo of the coupling for the hell of it.
