Re: Gypsy Caravans.
Hi
Thought these adverts for Gypsy may interest, I really like the style of the 16 footer The picture is from an undated 16 page brochure for Giant Reswood, a waterproof ply, used by "almost every leading caravan manufacturer in Australia" according to the text. It had a sheet size of 25ft x 7ft without a join and a note said it would soon be available in 50ft x 9ft6in sheets Young uns will have to do their own conversions to metric but it's way too big to put on the roof rack.
The stuff was manufactured by Ralph Symonds Ltd. Morely Avenue, Rosebery, Sydney and they also offered an aluminium faced ply called 'ALUMPLY' A plastic coated version for concrete formwork was called 'PLASPLY'. Using a set of dolly wheels on this one too. Cop a look at the portable radio the model is carrying It would be great to see a lineup of vans like this again Not certain of the souce of this advert, maybe NRMA Caravan and Camping Guide about 1956.
