1947 Lantern Roof Homemade
Re: 1947 Lantern Roof Homemade
An interesting van, should be easy to sort out by the look of it. It looks vaguely familiar for some reason. I like the old style flourish of the two toning, look forward to more pics.

Hi S&J
Got a style and charm all their own those lantern vans havent they.
Tongue and groove floor boards. Internal fittings and furniture not all that removed from Household items.
Good idea making her suspenders stable / straight and square before attacking the body and interior .
Any idea on what it weighs... Most of the old photos i have seen of these sort of vans being used show them being towed by old Chevs and jailbar ford light from the 40s....
May be an indication that they are fairly hefty ??
Get her under cover
and...
Good luck with the resto ..
Regards

Hay Reddo, hard to say on weight probably around the ton, there's a weigh bridge 30m from the last photo will find out soon enough, funny but this van has sat outside for the past 30 + years with no signs of ingress, needs a few minor replacements around the bottom rim but over all who ever made this new what he was doing

O the second owner said that even thou the old under carriage was removed in the early days it still came with the van, he said it had 22inch Wimpet wooden wheels and axle, what ever that was it would have been high off the ground he said, he sold it to a car restorer

Hi Stephen4Julie
That sounds interesting. I suppose your dating is from the horse's mouth so to speak but the styling appears to be much earlier.
These couple of items from Trove show similar shape vans and window style in the late 1930s. http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/page/10214965
Food for thought maybe.
