I have become involved(someone gave them my name) with the Australian mint in putting together a bunch of Holden motor cars to be part of the mints ( not yet released) Holden coin collection launchday celebrations and unofficial Holden day to be held in the mint car park on August 20th.
I have so far arranged/found 9 out of the 11 cars I need with 5 of of them being an exact colour match to the collectable coin featuring that model. I am still after an HQ sedan and a VC commodore sedan to round out the bunch (it's essentially a steel bumper collection set) if anyone knows of someone who might like to be part of this.
Their dream is to have a matching model to each car featured on the coins. If I can get them in the same colour would be magic but beggars can't be choosers and ultimately not essential, as long as I can get a matching example of each.
So if you know of anyone owning a VC or HQ in vgc who might be interested it would be great.
My phone is 0408703138 if anyone can help.
There may be a sweetener in it for them although it's NOT confirmed yet and I am not allowed to let on what it will/may be.
Anyone else who might like to come on the day check out the cars and coins (and the mint I spose while you are there )and especially bring along their old Holden of any model would be most welcome. I am pleased to say that cobber will be bringing his FJ along to be part of the "feature 11 " cars on the day but I need to do some networking(hence my post) to get the Qee and the commodore!

Mr Jenno, Will a genuine HQ 350 Two door do ?
Re: "Mint condition" collectable Holden coin release launch
Reminder that Mint Condition is on this weekend in Canberra. .strugglebrook cobber and I are excited to be providing vehicles to be part of the official launch display, FJ, EH and HQ. Hoping that any/all you steel bumper Holden fiends out there can come along with your old Holden to add to the show and help make a success of the day
The mint was overwhelmed with the interest in the coins earlier this month on their web sales release but have retained individual coins, Holden bikky tins and " premium pack sets" for sale on the day.
Hope some of you can make it along and catch up

Gday Reddo
Sorry I couldn't talk long yesterday.
It was a top day, the "coin launch" display vehicles were tops and a heap of steel bumper holdens turned up to make a great show of it.
They started queueing for coin sales at 1am!!!!!!!!!! and the queue was 150/200 metres long by 10am.
I was flat out all day and only realised on the way home I did not take a single photo!!!!
The mint was most generous and gave us each a premium set of the heritage coins as a thank you for coming.
I know cobber took lots of photos. I'll see if he can send them to me and I'll pass them on to you to post on my behalf if you would.....computer gumby I am! There were some lovely cars, lots of FJs of all varieties , some beautiful monaros...something for all tastes
You'll be pleased to know that the mighty EH was the most popular car in the single coin sales according to mint sales staff!
Only one downer on the day.
Each of the coin launch vehicles had a lovely poster about each model in a plastic stand in front of each of our cars. They were ours to keep at the end of the day. In the last couple of minutes as the mint presented us with our gifts( with everyone all around) some one pinched mine from right under our noses. Mongrel bast..d.
Regards
Jenno
PS By the way I bought a lottery ticket on the way home For only the third time in living memory John wore long pants. A rare sight.
PPS by the way again it was Johns birthday today. Happy birthday mate

Hi Jenno
What a day, shame your treasure was nicked but it will only be of use to hang on the garage wall, I'm sure you will know it if you see it about.
And, John in long trousers, was Canberra really THAT cold or did he also renew his vows in front of the Holdens?? And a Happy Birthday to him too.
Is all this coinage related to the stamp release the other day? A big Holden stamp pack with a nice shiny Monaro on the cover and stamps with Holdens of all kinds. I bought the last one, he said he only had them a day. Photo to follow.

Hi George
No relation I believe. It was something they did as a result of discussions with Holden, being the last year of the Australian built cars/company.Yes it was a shame it was nicked and the mint unexpectedly did give me another in my gift set so I had a replacement. It was just the principle that some mongrel waited around that last hour just to pinch it. All of us had pretty well stuck near our cars over the last hour of the show worried about exactly that happening. I stepped no more than 10 metres to one side of the car while the mint presented the owners with their gift sets of the coin collection and within 2 minutes they'd swooped!
They had them set up in the marquee too where they were doing the coin sales and apparently right in front of staff people were walking in and just taking them off the walls and trying to walk out with them...some people really are low down ignoramuses!!!
Jenno
Re John it could have been worse, he could have worn his birthday suit

Hi Jenno
Thieves have their use, they kept me in a job for nearly 30 years!!
May as well keep all the Holden bits together so these photos show the stamp pack. Cheers

No mug shot of Cobber and the FJ. ... Thats totally unheard of at any event where the media is present ????...How could he of missed out ??...He mustnt of parted his hair straight or something.
Bro and i spent the weekend in the EH Panno as sweep vehicle following 107 cars on a run called "The Ryleston Classic.which has a logo of...." Pretend Rally / Real Fun" .. (98% where minis.. cooper s and Mokes .1100s .. Minor 1000 ) . a couple of Porsche .. and alfa . Down to the central coast,,, up through Kulnara .. Wollombi... Cessnock... Denman,, Bylong valley for an overnighter at the Globe Hotel in Rylstone....
Pleased to say we didnt get too much repair work to do.
Bros son Evan orgainises it each year and he done a great job again this year.
A must attend event for anyone who has a Mini .
Cheers
