Well guys & gals, here we are after the second last chemo day and am still feeling good 2 more days this week then next week will be my last, from there I suspect I will be contacted by the surgeon's office with an appointment where I hope to find out a date for my surgery and whether or not I get another Gastroscopy or a Scan of some sorts to see how well the treatment worked and then once surgery has happened I have 5 more Chemo treatments to look forward to.

Hello once again, well Friday was my last day of treatment, all done now and have an appointment with my surgeon on Tuesday 9th , I hope to find out a date for my surgery and if he wants any follow up scans or tests, I am feeling great health wise for now other than a bit of nausea which I had before treatment anyway so nothing new to me there.

I've had a few friends ask me of the symptoms I had that lead to my diagnosis, it started back in June with simple reflux that was severe enough to wake me during the night on numerous occasions, I saw my doctor who put me on medication to ease the amount and strength of stomach acid that was produced, this worked fine till I ran out of them, so I returned to the doctor for more and I was sent off for a Gastroscopy which revealed the true cause of my discomfort, I was talking with the specialist and he told me that in my case the constant reflux was the cause of my cancer not just over the last couple of months but it had been going on for years, I recall having Heartburn/Intergestion for many years and it was way back then that it began, with the constant reflux the stomach acid would burn the lining of the Eosophagus to the point that it kicked off the cancer cells into thier growing frenzy, now please don't go crazy if you also have reflux or are taking medication for such but as I have said to many friends if you have any concerns please go talk to your doctor especially if you have never had a Gastroscopy and discuss it with him, I have since had my two younger sisters organize a test, one has had hers done and is waiting on the results and the other has hers next week, I spoke to them both about getting tests done as 7 years ago we lost our older brother to the very same thing, I know there are blokes out there that don't like going to the doctors but please go talk to one, I'm glad I did.

I'm not trying to scare anyone but just putting the info out there, you make up your minds as to what you do, the choice is your's.

Gday Humpy. Good to hear that things are progressing well for you. Also good that you suggest any one or us blokes to go have a checkup.Costs nothing but the time it takes to go see the Doc & in most cases thats a 15 min walk or drive (in the suburbs).Besides we blokes should do it as a matter of general health. gordon

OK, so seen the Surgeon and he was very happy with the reports he received from the Oncologist & Radiotherapist, he then sent me for a CT scan from neck to pelvis, now wait for him to view said pics discuss with his cohorts and I see him again on the 23rd Dec, depending on the scans he may even elect to do Keyhole which I hope he does as it will be better all round, so nothing much new to add till then.

I now have a date for surgery, 17th of January, one more PET scan to do before as there are now 2 lymph nodes in question so we'll see what happens there, plan the surgeon has mapped out is keyhole in the guts to get in and loosen everything from it's mountings then roll me over on the left side and cut me on the right then deflating the right lung and going in through the ribs to finish off, will probably be in for 10 to 14 days before I go home then who knows how long after that, gunna be a bit of a tough road ahead but others have done it before me so no reason I can't get through it also.

Hi Humpy.
As I have gotten older I tend to take more notice of these medical procedures for some reason, and it never ceases to amaze me what doctors can do these days. Keyhole surgery and who would have thought you could deflate a lung and then simply re inflate it again.  Iam sure you will be in good hands so keep up the positive attitude, and we will be thinking of you.

Cheers. Richard.
