This substantial advertisement appeared in The Daily News (Perth) on 20-4-1940 as part of an 'advertiorial' for Bernie's Caravan.
The name had not appeared before in my searching on Trove, but according to the advert they had built over 50 caravans by this time.

And as part of the almost 2 pages relating to Bernie and his caravan there were these two photos as part of the article.

Bernie, if nothing else, seems to have been quite the self promoter and the article also contained advertisements for various other businesses involved in the caravan.

To keep this post tidy I posted the two pages relating to details of Bernie's Caravan-shop under Commercial Caravans as it seemed more appropriate.

WW 2 was just under way when this venture started and it will be interesting in time to see if Bernie's caravan-shop and Greenwoods come out the other side.

G'day George,
"Bernie's" were a famous hamburger outlet operating out of a caravan in Mounts Bay Road Perth for nearly 50 years.

As a kid in the 1960's and teenager in the 70's, I remember them well.

Interesting to hear that Bernie (didn't he have the 'Fastest Milk Cart in the West' too, no, that was Ernie ) was such an icon and survived for such a long time, and that you had first hand experience with his 'caravan cuisine' in your youth. His venture pre-dates Sydney's Harry's Cafe de-wheels by quite a few years, Harry's didn't get started with his van until 1945 according to the Powerhouse Museum notes.

It makes me wonder if anyone in particular started that other caravan culinary masterpiece, Adelaide's 'pie floater' and if Melbourne and Brisbane have anything in particular to offer those who like to dine from a caravan.
